A quick introduction. My name is Kristin, I am 31 years old and have never had very much interest in Politics. Which is a little surprising because my great grandmother would roll over in her grave if she had known I have never voted. My grandparents also are avid voters and are very much in the "political scene". I see the lack of confidence that many Americans are having with our government and I see the big picture and I get why we are losing "faith". I am taking this class to educate myself. I want to see the details that make up our government. I want to understand the policies and political views of each party. I want to be able to understand how people can go into a profession so set on helping the American people, being the voice of your state, and then in the end being so corrupted by big corporations who pay you to vote a certain way. Where do our leaders go wrong. Where do they stray off the path. As a country we choose the best candidate that we think will do the best job for the people. To be heard when we can't. I think that is the real reason why I have never voted. Because why would I vote for one crook or another. I think that many of our politicians are only in office for themselves. In my opinion it not a bad gig, you get to sit in an office, read some bills, vote for your OWN pay increase, and not be effected by any of your own decisions. Plus you get one hec of a retirement when all is said and done.
So I see the big picture but if I educate myself more then maybe I will understand what happens behind closed doors. Why when hard working American Soldiers are going without does our leaders increase their pay. Last time I checked they were not actually on the battle fields. Although I think that if they were our problems would get ironed out pretty quick. Just remember I am not here to offend anyone, these are my opinions. I am here to learn.
I have taken a quiz to find out just where I stand. in an online quiz, http://science.time.com/2014/01/09/can-time-predict-your-politics I had scored completely on the conservative side. I am not sure completely what all that entails, but while I am in this class I hope to sharpen my understanding so that I do know where I stand politically. I hope to teach my children to think for themselves and I hope that they would stand up for their beliefs, and that they would be able to see the faults and truths behind their convictions. After all isn't that what our founders fought so hard for. I think that is is an American duty to be involved with our government because if we aren't and we don't vote, then in the end we don't get any say.
